Victor Lewis Smith, RIP
Dreadlocked Essex critic died in Bruges after a short illness.

Obnoxious but could be very funny as well.

TV Offal was good, although I only really remember the gay daleks sketch. Once did a savage fake obituary for Jeremy Clarkson.

RIP

At last. Somebody on a brownbread thread I've actually heard of. Highly intelligent, venomous humour. His attacks on Esther Rantzen were hilarious. One of the only things that made the Evening Standard worth reading. Recently watched all his TV shows on youtube. Very entertaining.

Aw.

He and I made eye contact in a theatre bar once, and he smiled.

That's all I've got on this subject.

You should have told him how you admired his column.

Always used to see his picture in the paper as a kid and thought it was weird that a white bloke with a double barrelled name had dreadlocks.

Oh and RIP enjoyed Offal and his column as has been said a refreshingly different, humorous take on things.

His column in the Standard used to often have me laughing on the train home. A very talented writer. That was when the Standard was a proper newspaper and a good read. Since Covid it has reduced in size and has very little content worth reading.

RIP to my namesake and one of my favourite writers.

As mentioned - His TV reviews for the Evening Standard were the stuff of legend.

"Everytime Jeremy Clarkson appears in my TV he leaves behind a tidemark of slurry halfway up the screen"

"The five most debilitating words in the English Language are - "Ladies and Gentlemen - Alan Titchmarsh"
